Weekend Recap – June 4th

Monday, we meet again! We had another great weekend – this one consisted of a date night in, plenty of snuggles with my sweet babe (who turned 6 months old on Sunday!), spending time with some of my girlfriends, and getting things done around the house. This week I’m really going to begin focusing on some of the goals I set out for myself in this body image post – specifically fitting in more workouts throughout the week! I’m excited to have more of a routine in place – I do much better when I have a plan to follow and a goal to reach!

Friday

Friday was pretty uneventful – we got home after work and spent time together as a family until it was Luke’s bedtime. We just ordered a few new toys and they arrived Friday afternoon, so Luke was hyper focused on putting all the new things straight into his mouth 🙂

Blake ran out and grabbed dinner for us after we put Luke down, and we just had a low key evening before calling it a night and heading to bed.

Saturday

Saturday morning kicked off with…what else…my favorite barre class! No surprise there 🙂 It really is just the best way to start off my weekend – my body gets moving first thing and it’s an entire hour where I can focus on myself and clear my head. I ran by the grocery store after class to grab some ingredients for our Date Night In(<– affiliate link) meal. Blake bought me this cookbook a few years ago (whenever I drag him to Anthropologie with me, he peruses the cookbooks and other gift ideas and has started surprising me with different ones for birthdays and anniversaries!) and it’s hands down one of our favorite cookbooks. I’ll be sharing more of my favorites in a later post, but this one is too good to not share twice! The whole book is broken up into entire meals, with seasonal ingredients/flavors depending on the time of year. The author always shares a story before each meal, and the point of the book is really to create an entire date night experience at home. We LOVE when we plan one of these – this is the first time we have done one since having a baby (there is a TON of prep work), but we look forward to the date during the days leading up to it. It’s fun to plan out the meal (most consist of a cocktail, sides, main course and a dessert), shop for the food, prep together with a glass of wine, and then actually sit and enjoy dinner (rather than trying to figure out when we’re going to fit it in between bath time and bottle washing!).

After the grocery store, I ran by Starbucks to pick up some coffee. We ran out at home and I had a free menu item via my app, so I snagged a Venti iced coffee. I shared this on my Insta Stories, but I always get a Venti when I have a free drink with the intention of splitting it – drinking half one day and finishing it off the next. However, I kept sneaking into the fridge all day Saturday for “one more sip” and by the end of the day it was pretty much all gone…oops!

Once I made it back home, I showered, got ready for the day and then we quickly prepped the shortbread dough for that night before hopping in the car and heading to one of my best friend’s houses to celebrate her adorable little girl’s first birthday. We always say her daughter (Kate) and Luke will get married one day, and this was actually their first time meeting! We put them next to each other…and basically they wanted nothing to do with each other haha! Oh well…we have YEARS for them to learn to love each other 🙂

After we got home from the party, Luke went down for a nap while Blake grabbed some more items that we needed for dinner and I cleaned the kitchen and started prepping a few things. We actually were able to knock out a TON of the work while Luke slept and by the time he woke up, everything was either finalized or ready to be put into the oven. Luke is in a phase where he is GO GO GO but can’t actually go anywhere yet since he’s not quite sitting up by himself or crawling which gets exhausting because he wants to be held and moving around every minute he is awake! We are still waiting on a baby friendly mat for our living room – we ordered one from Amazon but weren’t thrilled with it, so ended up ordered one from Buy Buy Baby. It’s supposed to be delivered Monday, so fingers crossed it comes and we like it!

After we put Luke to bed, we put the main course into the oven and Blake made the cocktails which were Rhubarb Sours. I’d never had them before but ohmygosh they were so good! We sat down and had the salad with our drinks and it was so nice to sit at the table and chat. We both agreed we need to continue to carve out time to focus on us whenever we can! We ate the rest of the dinner (we loved every single thing we had) and ended the night with a dairy free Strawberry Shortcake Trifle (we sub coconut cream whenever it calls for heavy cream) and it was the perfect end to our Saturday!

Sunday

We got up Sunday morning and enjoyed our coffee and leftover shortbread while playing with Luke. When it was time for his nap (Blake and I always joke we wish we were allowed to take a nap 1.5 hours after we wake up too!), I took him upstairs to cuddle a little before putting him down. He ended up falling asleep on my chest in the recliner which NEVER happens anymore. He’s usually so wiggly and active while I’m holding him and typically only falls asleep once I put him in the crib. I had a million things on my to do list, but ended up staying in the recliner and holding him for over an hour while he slept. I kept staring at his sweet little face and just couldn’t stop thanking God for giving him to us. He stirred a little after awhile, so I got up and put him in the crib for the rest of his nap while I hopped and the shower and got ready to meet some girlfriends for lunch. After Luke woke up, we snapped a few pictures for his 6 month photoshoot. Typically we have him sitting in his recliner next to a giant stuffed elephant with the blocks indicating the month in front. However…Luke is SO curious now and would not sit still! He wanted those blocks and would not stop until he got them haha. I have a feeling our days of a quick and easy photoshoot are over 🙂

I met up with two of my best friends at The El Felix at Avalon for lunch. This place is just SO GOOD. The food and margaritas are simple and fresh – I could probably eat here every day and not get sick of it! It was so fun to catch up with them – we all went to college together and always have a blast when we’re together! I totally forgot to snap a picture while we were there, but if you are in Atlanta and haven’t been…you have to try it! There’s another location at The Battery/SunTrust Park, and an almost identical restaurant by the same Chef at Krog Street Market.

After lunch, I ran an errand (Luke’s about to bust out of his sleepers at night so I needed to grab a few new ones) and then got home just as Luke was waking up from a nap. The three of us spent the rest of the afternoon together and got ready for the rest of the week. We had leftovers from the night before, so dinner came together quickly after Luke went to bed. As I mentioned earlier, I’m excited to plan out some more workouts this week as I work toward some of the goals I set earlier. We packed our lunches for the week and got to bed at a decent hour which always starts my week off on the right note!

Hope everybody has a great week!

xoxo,

Lauren
